Restaurant in Madrid city centre

Located in the centre of Madrid, opposite the Teatro Real and just a few metres from the Royal Palace, El Café de la Ópera is a terrace, a gastrobar, a restaurant. A place where you can go every day for brunch (with two menus, one at 11:30 am and another from 2:00 pm) or enjoy its wide gastronomic offer with traditional recipes prepared with quality products, go for a drink and enjoy every moment.

Committed to lyric and quality music, from Wednesday to Sunday it livens up its spaces with a full range of menus and plans. On Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, from 7pm to 9pm you can enjoy a vibrant Piano Jazz session with a menu of the most attractive snacks. On Friday nights, the weekend begins with El Encanto de la Zarzuela, a dinner with a show that brings together the magic of the most traditional genre with a tasting menu. And on Saturdays, its now iconic Una Cena Cantada®. All in a very close, original and fun format, accompanied by piano.

Are you looking for something different?

El Café de la Ópera was born out of a passion for opera. Its privileged location has made it a regular meeting point for artists and lovers of the Teatro Real. A perfect place to enjoy the terrace on good weather days, brunch at the gastrobar, the chef’s suggestions and grandmother’s dishes, or simply a selection of tapas at the bar. Don’t miss out!

Restaurant with live opera

Una cena cantada

With more than 4.000 Singing Dinners since its inauguration, and more than 600 galas performed at other events outside our establishment both inside and outside Spain, Una Cena Cantada® is a unique lyrical experience. An immersive show in which you can enjoy opera performed just a few metres away from the diners while you enjoy a complete and exquisite tasting menu.

El Café de la Ópera has its own cast, the Compañía Lírica de El Café de Ópera, which performs the most popular and well-known pieces from opera, zarzuela, boleros and the most beautiful songs, accompanied by the piano

A charming dinner

El Encanto de la Zarzuela

The Café de La Ópera gives visibility to one of the most traditional genres, which emerged during the reign of King Philip IV, a great fan of Italian music and opera. A true ‘Zarzuela festival’ in which to enjoy a genre that is difficult to define: ‘It is not comedy but a small fable in which, in imitation of Italy, it is sung and performed’.

An emotion that is transferred to Friday nights at El Café de la Ópera with El Encanto de la Zarzuela, where a tasting menu will be offered in which each dish will be associated with a prelude with interpretations as well known as La Verbena de La Paloma, La Leyenda del Beso or Agua, azucarillos y aguardiente.

“Opera is the truth of the lie; cinema is the lie of the truth”

Ramón Gómez de la Serna

High quality Spanish cuisine

Restaurant

It is one of Madrid’s most valued hidden treasures, where you can discover the magic of fusing gastronomy with live opera. With unbeatable acoustics, El Café la Ópera has selected its own cast so that every Saturday at 8:30pm the magic happens. Voice, piano, an immersive experience and a carefully selected menu end at midnight with a unique toast, in which all the diners participate. Available for events and private parties, you can also find its Cocido Madrileño, awarded in 2015 for the quality of its chickpeas.

The menu

The gastronomic proposal of El Café de la Ópera is based on Mediterranean cuisine in a tribute to its Spanish roots. Dishes that provide an intense and flavourful experience.
