Una Cena Cantada

Dinner with live opera singers in downtown Madrid

If there is one word that can describe the feeling of what happens every Saturday night at El Café de la Ópera (c/ Arrieta, 6) is, without a doubt: Magic! Tenors, sopranos and mezzo-sopranos, accompanied by piano, interpret the most famous melodies of opera and zarzuela a few meters from the diners, while they explain their origin and some other curiosity about their creation or composition.

An evening marked by elegance that every Saturday at 8:30 p.m. dresses up in its best clothes to enjoy Una Cena Cantada. And that renews its gastronomic proposal each season inspired by the most famous operas and zarzuelas. In its new edition, its menu has been inspired by the zarzuela in three acts of La Chulapona with music by Federico Moreno Torroba. A representative work of Madrid’s casticismo with a plot that moves away from the traditional molds, closer to tragedy than to comedy itself.

A unique dinner show that you can enjoy a few meters from the Royal Opera House and the Royal Palace, in the heart of the city. With unique acoustics, it has its own lyrical company, making it the perfect place for a romantic dinner or to celebrate a special moment.

A dinner with a show for everyone (and for the whole family) in an original charming restaurant that starts with Iberian ham croquettes and mayonnaise as an appetizer to continue with a cream of corn with kikos and toasted sesame. For the main course, it has Salmon with cava reduction sauce, semi-dried tomato and pistachios followed by Baked duck confit with potato and cinnamon parmentier. To finish, nothing could be more exquisite than the soft cheese flan with violet ice cream.

Its great artistic direction offers a kind of interaction between the artist and the diner or spectator that will make constant improvisation and constant and pleasant surprises the secret ingredients that will make dining at El Café de la Ópera a unique, unrepeatable and inimitable experience. An experience that everyone, whether more or less an admirer or follower of operatic singing, more or less a devotee of signature cuisine -both specialties of the house- should know, as they say: at least once in a lifetime.
